What will the new year bring us?

What will the new year bring us?

24 januari 2022 14:30

Well, this!

We have made it. We have reached 2022. The board wishes all members, volunteers, sponsors, supporters and all others a very prosperous and above all healthy new year.

2022 may have started a bit wobbly. The weather is dull and football is - well- half on its ass. Okay, we can train and we play matches. But supporters are not allowed on the site and the competitions have been on hold for some time.

Next Tuesday new relaxations will most likely be announced and different rules will apply. The recreational teams will probably experience the restart of their competition this month. For the A-category, that will be a bit later.

Let's hope football as we know it returns. But to be on the safe side of things, keep in mind that there will still be measures in place in the coming year.

In addition to the relaxation of the measures, what else can we expect in 2022?

You can read it in this newsletter.

A new head coach

It was already in the local press: VV Wilhelmus is getting a new head coach. Ramon van Steekelenburg is his name. He is 30 years young, but already has a lot of experience as a trainer/coach. We know him, because he has been walking around Wilhelmus for years already. Ramon is a typical 'product of the Wilhelmus Academy'. Wilhelmus believes in educating players, referees and trainers. Ramon has gone through a number of courses and is now the head coach of our club. We wish him - and therefore ourselves - all the best.

With the arrival of Ramon we say goodbye to Oscar Laguna Burgos. He has done an excellent job with the Sunday selection for the past 5 seasons, for which we are grateful. Oscar goes to work at Den Hoorn, and we are certain we will meet him again.

New game times

Wilhelmus grows. That is beautiful, but when all teams have to play it can be very busy on Saturday. The match secretary must plan several matches at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, otherwise he will not be able to complete the program. And even then it's tight.

In order to prevent too much crowding in the dressing rooms and to ensure that a warm-up can be performed before every game, a small number of youth games will go on and play on Sunday during the coming half of the season. We did this in collaboration with the KNVB. The association puts teams of clubs that are struggling with a lack of space together in the competition. This makes it easy to move matches to Sunday.

Not all league matches move. It will be just 2, maybe 3 games per team per half of the season. So every Sunday there are youth competitions, but with changing teams.

Lots of new volunteers

When the formats are known and the competitions start again, we will also switch to a new way of planning canteen services. Due to reasons, this year it has proved extra difficult to find members or parents to run a shift in the canteen or in the kiosk. We have to change that, because Wilhelmus wants to be a club where everyone contributes.

Did you know that if all Wilhelmus teams participate, per half year each team would only have to lend 2 people for a few hours for the canteen or the kiosk? So practically it’s not much. If everyone cooperates, the planners can easily fill the schedules. And you know, doing a bar shift is fun . You’ll be welcomed by an experienced force and you are the friendly face of the club for a short amount of time.

What will we do to make you a happy volunteer? From the coming half of the season onwards, we will publish a long-term plan for the canteen services on the site. It lists the teams responsible for the canteen on match days. So you see your shift coming a long way ahead. The teams provide the planners with the names of the volunteers who will take on the service as early as possible. And so everyone can see how the schedule is completed. No worries, no stress. This way we are assured of a good canteen occupancy.

Please note, this only works if everyone participates! We are therefore not only talking about the parents/guardians of the youth members, but also about the players of the U23 teams, the senior selection and the other senior teams, including the expats. We are going to do this together!

On the way to a new club building

2022 will also be featured by the preparations for the construction of a new clubhouse. We currently assume that a brand new, multifunctional and super sustainable club building will arise on the same spot and based on the existing construction. The construction date is not yet known. We want to start as soon as possible, but there is still a lot to do before the first stone can be laid. The architect, Jan van Vliet, is preparing a sketch design. After that, a budget and project schedule will be drawn up and the members of the building committee will visit the municipalities involved. We will of course be looking for subsidies, but Wilhelmus will also have to pay for part of the costs through a number of actions. You will hear more this year about the progress of the building plans and the fundraising campaigns.
